This sounds like a simple question but there are actually many different things that a vending machine company can be. Typically a vending machine company supplies vending machines to companies or individuals who want them. The machines can then be resold, put into businesses, hotels, stores and more.

The vending machine company is not always the manufacturer. Sometime the company itself simply import thousands of machines and serves as more of a distributor. From the distributor the machines are sent out to other smaller sized companies who sell them to retailers.

The other type of vending machine companies are the one who mainly sell biz op and vending start up jobs. These are usually purchased by people looking to make money by installing vending machines in several different locations. Usually the pay a rent, fee or even a percentage of their profits to the location owner where they are setting up. Depending on how fast consumers purchase items from the vending machines the vending machine owner will need to refill the machine and collect the money out of it.

Companies that promote vending biz ops often times supply the refills, additional machines and add on parts to their customers. This allows them to make even more money by keeping the entire business "in house" or within their company.

Many people have tried these type of biz ops from companies like this but seldom make the fortune they want. The problem is often that the buyer isn't selecting highly trafficked locations. Typically these type of vending companies do have fantastic services and shipping options ready for their clients.
